For our first session, where possible it is helpful to book in at least an extra 15 minutes to allow for our consultation prior to your massage in order to discuss treatment plans and a brief outline of your medical history. This means that you will get a decent amount of hands on time.

Loose comfortable clothing - it is helpful if you dress down to your underwear for a holistic massage. Male clients may wish to bring with them some loose baggy shorts to wear instead of underwear.
If booked for a Kinetic Chain Release treatment, please wear loose trousers.
Arrive with an idea of what you’d like out of the session, such as:
• Postural improvement
• Pain relief
• Revitalization
• Emotional support
• Nourishment
• Relaxation & wellbeing
• or simply the experience of something new!
If Covid-19 rates are high again, with the neccessary restrictions in place: A face mask (unless you are exempt) which you can remove if you are lying face down in the massage cradle and also during the consultation.

Holistic massage can be delivered under various different pressures depending on the client’s preference. This includes light, medium and firm pressure.
However, the pressure used should NEVER cause any pain. A degree of discomfort, like a mild ache, can be expected during a massage, for example when working on tense or tight areas during a deep tissue massage. However, pain that's sharp, overwhelming, or causes you to tense up is not a sign of a good massage and should be addressed with your therapist.

Yes! I offer pre-natal massage to enable a safe and comfortable experience for you and your unborn baby.

If the nature of the accident is mild, for example whiplash, it is advisable to wait for at least 48 hours before coming for a massage in order to allow the body to carry out its natural healing process. However, gentle work to relax and reduce shock may be useful. In the subacute and more established phases of scar tissue formation, massage along with a manipulation technique such as chiropractor or osteopathy can contribute greatly to healing.

Contraindications – common medical conditions when massage is best avoided:
• Infectious skin conditions such as fungal, herpes, impetigo, mites and lice, cellulitis etc generally mean complete, or local, avoidance of massage – if unsure check with your GP. In the interest of avoiding further contagion to yourself and the therapist, please do not come for a massage with an infectious skin condition.
HOWEVER:
Massage is fine if you have a wart or verruca. Warts and verucas are very common and not to be embarrassed about. There is debate about how infectious they are, so, to be on the safe side, the therapist will avoid direct contact with them. It is best to mention them to your therapist and ideally to cover them with a plaster before your session.
• Osteoarthritis in acute inflammation
• Rheumatoid arthritis - except in subacute stages
• If you have symptoms of COVID-19
• If you have tested positive for COVID-19 – this means it's very likely you have the virus.
• If you have a condition and are unsure whether it is advisable to have a massage, contact me before booking your treatment so we can discuss the best way to proceed with your treatment, or check with your GP.

The simple answer to this question is ‘no’. However, in holistic, deep tissue and pre-natal massage I have developed certain patterns for working specific areas that I have found to be effective - this changes depending on what I find there.
The Indian head massage, Thai foot massage, Reflexology and Kinetic Chain Release treatments all follow a sequence, but varying lengths of time may be spent on a given area according to client preferences.

As muscles are used, toxins and metabolic waste are released to the surface, and build up between the muscle fibres. This build-up will cause muscle fibres to attach to one another and contract in certain points.
This tightness feels like lumps or “knots” and can cause pain, headaches, muscle spasms, numbness, decreased range of motion, and many other symptoms depending on the muscle, and where the adhesion is.

I tend to use either scented or non-scented oils, according to client preference/requirement:
Grapeseed oil (unscented)
Neal’s Yard organic scented oils (the scented oils I am currently using are orange and geranium/geranium and frankincense/ginger and juniperberry)
